  1. Because Cyprus is an international and/or European hub for shipping companies, it has attractive taxation schemes for such businesses. For example generally: No income tax levied under Cyprus national tax law on the wages of officers and crew working on ships under Cyprus flag in international traffic. It also has advantages tax treaties in this regard, see for example for Germany http://www.slideshare.net/Urbahns/international-traffic-newsletter-2011-no-5-9995833#btnLast

My questions: 1. Will this special rule for ship crews be applied regardless if the crews are resident in Cyprus or not ?

    2. What does this effectively mean for taxation purposes, i.e. is such crew required to file income tax returns in Cyprus or do they just get their money and walk away?

    3. By what means are the crews able to proof the salary received in Cyprus in their home country respectively the waiver of taxation right of Cyprus under domestic law, i.e. when no Cyprian income tax return is required does Cyprus confirm their waiver of taxation right?

Any more information on these questions is highly appreciated!
